MSI RTX 3050 Gaming X 8Gįeaturing the same new design aesthetic introduced with their other RTX 30 series cards that have been adjusted since the last generation of GPUs, MSI has designed this to fit in with the other cards in their gaming range but with a smaller and more modest design. I also suspect that the cost of this card will be on the higher side given the prices of other MSI graphics cards currently available, but that is if you can actually get one at the MSRP and not for twice what it’s worth. Compared to the 4GB of memory found on the Radeon RX 6500 XT series of cards from AMD, the RTX 3050 from NVIDIA features 8GB of GDDR6 memory, which should allow it to pull ahead in memory-intensive games and programs, but of course, this brings a higher MSRP than the competition.

In this review, we’ll be taking a look at the latest card to join their line up the MSI RTX 3050 Gaming X 8G! Featuring 2nd generation RT cores, 3rd generation Tensor and that all-important Ampere architecture, you can take full advantage of the RTX ecosystem by using technologies like DLSS and NVIDIA Reflex to get higher frame rates and better system latency in compatible games. Either way, if you're running hardware that's anywhere near the ballpark of the listed specifications (in age, performance, or both), you'll be in the door for the next chapter of the Tomb Raider saga. With the launch of the NVIDIA RTX 3050 officially behind us now, we are taking a look at an offering from MSI, who are veterans in the GPU scene, having been making graphics cards since 1989. We can take this to mean above average performance compared to the minimum spec (perhaps more eye candy turned on or more FPS), and we know many of these minimum system requirements are mere ballpark suggestions for an enjoyable experience (which in many cases, means at least 30 FPS). Square Enix didn't cite a specific AMD processor model in the minimum spec, and instead it only listed an Intel Core i3-3220 or "AMD equivalent." Of course the Ryzen quad-core processors (like the Ryzen 3 1400) will run the game (it's definitely better than the Core i3-3220), but Square Enix specified the Ryas the recommended AMD CPU because it meets the "recommended" criteria, whatever that may be (a framerate target at a specific resolution and setting, for example). To clarify, the Ryis the recommended AMD CPU, not the minimum. The new game is also the first Tomb Raider title to list DirectX 12 as the recommended API, signalling that Square Enix has likely learned its DX12 lessons well from the previous iteration of the franchise. Rise of the Tomb Raider had a costlier GPU recommendation at launch with a GTX 970 (which, in its heyday, was more expensive than the GTX 1060), and it's comforting to know you won't need to buy one of the top tier graphics cards (and spend a ridiculous sum of money) to get to the recommended performance milestones for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Recommended specifications for Shadow of the Tomb Raider are also par for the course, with Square Enix suggesting a Core i7-4770K or Ryprocessor, 16GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 480 8GB graphics card.

The only minimum requirement that substantially increased was the storage space, which went from 25GB ( RoTR) to 40GB ( SoTR). Whereas Rise needs at least a Core i3-2100 or AMD equivalent, 6GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 650 2GB or Radeon HD 7770 graphics card, Shadow of the Tomb Raider requires a slightly newer Core i3-3220 (or AMD equivalent), 8GB of memory (2GB more), and a GTX 660 (one model higher than Rise of the Tomb Raider's minimum) or 1050 and the same HD 7770 for your graphics card. The minimum hardware requirements are surprisingly low and don't start much higher than its predecessor, Rise of the Tomb Raider.
